Our Work: Introduction
We believe that a sustainable society would manage speed, as a major aspect of the transport system, on the basis of its impacts on communities and on the environment.
We are working to increase understanding of the importance of speed control as an instrument of transport policy and to secure lower and better enforced speed limits.
Slower speeds would reduce the heavy social and environmental costs of our transport system while increasing its efficiency. At present, speed reduction is considered almost exclusively within a road safety context and even there its importance is underrated.
Our two active areas of research are the use of 20mph limits in built up areas and evidence-based speed limits. We hope to undertake research into sustainable enforcement, controlling speed through the vehicle, in the near future.
In addition, we respond to events and provide comment to the media, evidence for inquiries, responses to consultations and advice to communities.
